KNOWING YOUR HAIR TYPE As a Naturalist, you need to know your hair type. Your hair type is primarily based on your hair’s curl pattern... the amount of curl in your hair is determined by your hair follicle. The shape of your follicle determines whether your hair is: Type 1 STRAIGHT Type 2 WAVY Type 3 CURLY Type 4 COILY or KINKY These types are further divided into sub-categories based on the tightness or looseness of the curls and coils. We will look at the different hair types. Try identifying which of these define you. Type 1: Straight Hair This hair type stays straight irrespective of any amount of curling. It typically lies flat from the roots to the tips. Its texture is soft and silky, and it is extremely shiny. It does not possess any curls. Often, women with straight hair have fine hair.
